Ian McMillan

I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with over 20 years experience in a variety of settings including the NHS, charity and private sectors.

After developing an interest as an undergraduate in the work of the radical psychiatrist RD Laing and his approach to understanding and treating mental illness I went on to complete my training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with the Philadelphia Association, the charity Laing established in 1965. Subsequently I maintained my affiliation with the Philadelphia Asociation taking a position as a house therapist in one of their residential therapeutic communities in North London, where I worked for 10 years.

I currently maintain well established private psychotherapy practices in Brighton and London where I see adults for individual psychotherapy and continue to base part of my practice in the charity sector.

I am an approved APPT supervisor and provide individual supervision to psychotherapists and counsellors working within a psychodynamic framework.

I have always been committed to making psychological therapy as accessible as possible to all sections of the community and bring this commitment to my practice along with the depth and breadth of my skills and experience as a psychotherapist.
